The August heatwave is here in full force with Kent basking in scorching 30C-plus temperatures over the weekend, and along with it comes water shortages.

The hot weather has brought fresh demands on the county’s water supply with two water providers warning there could be no tap water left if people aren’t frugal enough.

South East Water has announced that 7th August 2020 saw record-breaking demand for water which outstripped the amount which could be pumped through the network.

Meanwhile Southern Water has said it’s seen ‘unprecedented’ demand for water across Thanet, the Isle of Sheppey, Gillingham, Chatham and Gravesend.

With no immediate end to the heatwave in sight, Southern Water has begged customers to be ‘considerate’ with the water they are using.
